Flowlab builds platforms for local and interstate musicians by hosting regular gigs around Perth. Their latest was on Friday August 28th and Melbourne rapper/producer Julez was flown over to join local talent Soma, Mathas and Able.

Emcee Mathas casually took to the stage easing into a nice flow whilst pacing the room to check out the crew.  Briefly joining him and eventually taking over was Able proving he’s a more than able emcee with articulate and rhythmical delivery.  Manning the turntables for the bulk of the night was DJ Silence dishing out a smooth and enjoyable backing for the lyrical.

Donning blue pyjama pants was headliner for the night Emcee Julez.  He pumped the room with phat beats and cutting poetry covering relationships, societal commentary and cheek.  Sampling from his three EP’s the small crowd got down to Passion of the Julez, Games, Live as a Ghost and Shopping Mall Blues.  He needed a little help for No Regrets – title track of the tour.  Pulling a slightly unwilling lass on stage, she was seated on a stool whilst Julez spat the love/hate lyrics of the song about an ex.  Julez puts on a solid set with enjoyable tracks and great delivery but he slightly lacks in audience connection – could be because his eyes were closed half the time!

The turn-out left a lot to be desired for this night with the majority of punters opting for the free entertainment provided in the courtyard.  Don’t let this happen again by checking Flowlab’s next gig at The Rosemount on the 14th of this month when they present Low Budget.
