TYPHOONS // ALBUM LAUNCH

September 3rd, 2009 by John

A typhoon hit Australian soils, damaging speakers and affecting hundreds of locals in the nations west. The raving storm measuring at 100 decibels impinged North Perth on Friday night, creating floods of people and mass pandemonium!

Targeting The Rosemount Hotel, funky hip hop band The Typhoons unleashed their long awaited album Pleasure Is A Freedom Song. Emcees Galaga and Able head a band of 10 artists which includes the beautiful voice of Natalie Alley and 7 savvy musicians on drums, keys, strings and brass. These talents combine to create a funky ensemble of soulful sounds, insightful reflections and good times.

Making their mark in the local music scene for the past four years, the groups’ popularity is apparent by the impressive turnout. Around a few hundred people battled the blistering cold to check out what the guys have been up to lately. Dome Sunset and Maxy Bills greeted the ears upon entry, followed by Boom Bap Pow who ensured everyone warmed up. By 11pm the atmosphere was jovial and the venue had reached capacity.

The Typhoons blew on stage and unleashed their swankin’ new tracks including The Build, Automated, Mrs Mystery and The Need. A highlight in the dawn of the set was a brief appearance from fellow local emcee Mathas for a collaborative track. Drinking in the crowds’ enthusiasm, vocalists Able, Galaga and Alley projected the astute raps and soulful hooks of Pleasure Is A Freedom Song. It was Bad News when the set came to an end – but this debut single was a pumping way to round off the night.
