The WAMi Festival is on again and there is, as usual, heaps to do, see and of course hear. We’re going to be filming at a few events and expect some tweets form round the place too, there’s way too much stuff for us to be able to be at everything so if you see something cool let us know!

Instead of providing dodgy deep fried snacks, Love Is My Velocity are filling the space with a range of local music sounds, wares and activities that run throughout the festival from Wednesday May 19 to Sunday May 23. Artists contributing to TAKEAWAY TUNES include: Eleventh He Reaches London, The Benedict Moleta Band, Schvendes, Tomas Ford, The Bank Holidays and Hayley Beth.

More than 40 Western Australian artists will hit stages all over Northbridge and then head down to Amplifier for the WAMi Closing Party, during the day you can catch Boom! Bap! Pow!, The Ghost Hotel, Boys Boys Boys and more. RTRFM 92.1 will also be broadcasting live from the Saturday Spectacular. Jebediah will be leaping on stage for the Closing Party along with Abbe May, The Scotch of Saint James, Umpire, Will Stoker and the Embers, Goodnight Tiger, Arts Martial, Emperors, Tomas Ford, The Jackards, French Rockets, King George. This is the one thing you have to do this WAMi season.

WHERE: The West Australian Museum
This event pulled in some huge crowds last year and is back to showcase the talents of local music photographers. This year over 450 images were submitted for judging, with the criteria being that images had to feature a Western Australian artist or location. Finalists include Anthony Tran, Brian Ward, Courtney McAllister, Gemma Rule, Jarrad Seng, Jordan Shields, Lisa Businovski, Zoe Walker.

WHERE: Capitol, Murray St, Perth
This year’s WAMi Awards will be co-hosted by RTRFM’s Peter Barr and Triple J’s The Doctor and featuring live performances from Sugar Army, Will Stoker and the Embers, The Brow Horn Orchestra & Hayley Beth this will be great reason to dress up and strut some red carpet awards night styles. With a list of nominees including Tame Impala, ShockOne, Eskimo Joe, Gyroscope, Abbe May and Birds of Tokyo there’s strong competition in every category.
