MD LIMITED EDITIONS // EDITION 5 CALL OUT

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 by John

MD expo
It’s time to get organised and start thinking about how you can contribute to the next issue of MD Ltd Eds due out in Feb 2010: The Photography Issue!

You don’t ‘have’ to be a professional photographer to contribute, however we do expect a high standard of work. You could be a street artist or a fashion desginer- we just want your work to be represented by a photograph!

MD is all about giving independent artists another medium to exhibit their work in. Publishing your work also promotes the very best little pretty Perth has to offer and gives us a chance to document and ‘historicize’ indie art that may otherwise fly under the radar. MD seeks to make our lil’ cultural hub as creatively competitive and encouraging as possible! Nothing is taboo. We have an R+ rating so don’t hold back! Make a statement and make it last!

The format will change from A5 portrait to A4 landscape. Submissions for entry begin now and end on the 18th of January. Email to nicolenorelli@gmail.com your lo res images a lil’ bio and your contact details as we might also like to interview you pretty young things!

NB Please ensure that the people in your photos are happy to have their image published for the public. Certify that you have the right!

And if you have contributed to us before please do not hesitate to contribute to us again!

Come Hither Noise presents eight Australian and international artists, each with contemporary approaches to the concept of sound.

“Our first-ever exhibition featuring sound presents a fabulous cross-section of artists. Come Hither Noise is stimulation for the senses” says Jim Cathcart, Director of Fremantle Arts Centre.

Rev the engine of a V2 Holden Monaro engine sampler in an installation by Berlin-based Thomas Meadowcroft.

Marvel at a distance at the collection of kinetic gadgets installed along the hall by Ross Manning.

Mark Brown’s interest in the history of Fremantle and specifically the South Fremantle Power Station produces a resonant shrine to our electric past while Elvis Richardson’s hypnotic yet playful television test patterns provides a gentle contrast.

Poetic video works by John Conomos and Sam Smith span vast and colourful landscapes, whilst a three-part collaborative piece by Sriwhana Spong heightens the relationship between sound and sight.

In contrast, Richard Crow’s work is presented as part of a radio broadcast during the exhibition.

Associated events:
Exhibition Opening: 6:30pm Friday 31 July
Co-produced with Perth-based independent record label Love Is My Velocity, featuring a one night only performance paying homage to the experimental noise artists based in WA
Artists’ Talk: 2pm, Saturday 1 August
Join artists Thomas Meadowcroft, Mark Brown, Ross Manning and curator Jasmin Stephens
RSVP to Opening & Talk: rsvp@fremantle.wa.gov.au

Come Hither Noise is presented as part of the 9th Totally Huge New Music Festival in association with Tura New Music 10-20 September.

Fremantle Arts Centre: 1 Finnerty St, Fremantle WA fac.org.au
